Perceived fit between a person and an organisation is one of the strongest predictors of applicant attraction. Chapman et al.’s (2005) meta-analysis indicated that person–organisation fit accounts for as much as 31% of the variance in organisational attraction, and later work by Uggerslev, Fassina and Kraichy (2012, Personnel Psychology) identified fit perceptions as the strongest predictor of applicant attraction relative to job characteristics and the recruitment process itself. The lesson for employers is to communicate their real values and working style honestly, so the candidates who are attracted are the ones who will actually thrive.
